The good and the bad

First the good:
Yesterday Mila celebrated her 5th birthday. We adopted her just over 2 years ago. It is amazing how much she has blossomed. I think she acts younger now than she did at 3.

Last week we pulled an old dachshund girl from the shelter. She is 13, but still has a lot of spunk. Like Pip, we took her knowing that she has a slew of health issues. She has a very bad heart. But she is a total love. We call her Penny

Later in the week Joe was able to save a dumped puppy. He found her in Bonita, LA, and has been calling her Bonita. Bonita hasn't made it home yet, but when she does, we already have a home lined up for her.

Now the bad news:
Our darling old gal Pip has crossed over to the rainbow bridge this morning. We knew when we adopted her that she was old and ill and any time with her was borrowed. We loved her all we could, and she loved us back. She was a sweet old soul who brightened our life. I will never understand people like her original owners, who could have a dog their whole life and bring them to a kill shelter at the very end. At least she died in a home full of love, and not on a table at the shelter.
